Elite Auto Gear Subwoofer Box Recommendations 6.5” – 21”

We here at Elite Auto Gear want you to get the absolute best sound and output from your new Elite Auto Gear speakers. To help our customers, we have designed a set of box specs that can help any novice or professional builder with questions they may have about enclosure specs. Our engineers and techs have over 25 years of experience tuning enclosures and cabins for the best bass response. Box specs are not static — they can change with every vehicle, every speaker placement, and even weather conditions. Elite Auto Gear has combined all our experience to bring you a set of box specs that work for most vehicles, including port specs, box volume, and subwoofer multipliers.

Box tuning works in conjunction with the vehicle cabin’s resonant frequency, which affects overall subwoofer sound, tuning, and amplifier output. Through decades of trial and error, we have what we call perfect box specs that fit most of our subwoofer applications. These specs are designed to get the same sound from a 10” speaker as you would a 15! Output differs depending on wattage and cone area, but there is no difference in frequency response.

These volumes are NET volume — measured after vent and sub displacement. This chart will usually land you in the 35–40 Hz tuning range, meaning the enclosure plays down to ~28 Hz and up to ~60 Hz. Different vehicles tune slightly differently, but these specs will sound the same.
